Incumbent serves as a mid-level supervisor responsible for the older adult home-based programs of the Older Adult Services (OAS) department. Incumbent is responsible for the supervisory requirements that include the staff for the OAS department. Incumbent may provide direct patient care as needed, provide education in class settings, and collaborate with others in the community to provide needed care. Incumbent may also be responsible for ensuring the function of investigation and analytical epidemiologic activities related to surveillance, detection and prevention of diseases and injuries regarding aging populations. Incumbent works as a program and/or project supervisor and/or team member, under the direction of the assistant director and/or director. The purpose of this position is to supervise the staff and services provided by the Older Adult Services Department. Work requires independent judgment and knowledge of the didactic and clinical scope of public health nursing as well as knowledge of applied epidemiology for public health practice. Knowledge of managerial techniques and personnel policies and procedures is also required. Incumbent provides scientific, administrative and program direction and leadership for assigned program staff within the Older Adult Services department. Plans, assigns, schedules, prioritizes, directs and coordinates the work of assigned clinical and epidemiological staff. Conducts employee performance reviews within the Older Adult Services department, ensuring accuracy and quality of work and overall work performance. Participates in selection and assignments of clinical and epidemiology staff. Approves leave and develops performance standards and ratings. Gives advice and counsel to employees and instructs them on both work and administrative matters. Resolves complaints from employees; effects minor disciplinary action; refers major disciplinary issues to administration and/or human resources; and identifies developmental needs and arranges for necessary training with administration. Responsible for budget planning and tracking and making decisions in collaboration with assistant director/director, such as overtime and employee travel. Makes decisions on work problems presented by clinical and epidemiology staff. Responsible for eliminating problems within the Older Adult Services department, improving operating practices and procedures, promoting team-building and effectively interacting and coordinating with staff and peers across the health department. Works with the Nurse Clinic/Epidemiology Supervisor in planning, directing, overseeing and managing epidemiologic studies related to Older Adult Populations.
